Sunday Setlist 02-08-09

This entry is part of the fun going on at Fred McKinnon's blog. Check it out here and let everyone know how your service went....

I'm trying something new today.
Here's our service list, and following is a video commentary from me about it.

The service today was more hymn heavy than usual, but each song was done with a newer arrangement so I don't think it was too bad. People seem to enjoy the newer arrangements. It will be even better once we have a guitarist in place.

Anyway, here's the list...

Orchestral Prelude: Crown Him With Many Crowns (instrumental)
Announcements
For The Beauty Of The Earth - updated hymn arrangement
Unashamed Love - Ten sheckle shirt
Welcome / Fellowship
Crown Him With Many Crowns - updated hymn arrangement - had rough transition on a key change. Not a huge issue, just a hiccup. Everything went ahead as normal.
Wonderful, Merciful Savior - Dawn Rogers & Eric Wise
Offertory Prayer - Deacon
Choir Special: Faithful & True
Transitional Video
Message: Bro. Steve: “Truth For Life: Overcoming Respect Neglect”
(Exodus 20:12)Theme: Honor Parents
Invitation: Just As I Am - Hymn Arrangement
Closing Chorus: Take Up Your Cross (Ray Blotz?)

Even now, as I watch the below video as I type this, I gotta say...I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it again. I previously had no idea I had so many weird facial expressions I make. And wasn't aware until recently that I seem to talk out of the side of my mouth. Very strange. Anyway, let me know what you think. If you're as uncomfortable with it as I am, I won't do it again.

Enjoy...

  1. Shawn--no video that I see.

Thanks for posting. The only hiccup was me yesterday when I picked up a copy of the music in the choir room and used it instead of what I practiced with.. and it was incomplete. Try playing along with a whole page missing on FATHER SPIRIT JESUS---ouch!

  2. I enjoyed your blog video. It was a nice personal touch. I really liked Kermit the frog looking like he was sitting on your shoulder!!!

  3. The vlog forced me to look up your nose. I don't know how I feel about that.

I will begin shouting in worship in May for sweeps.

P.S. I like that you used Ray Boltz on the same Sunday when Steve discussed same-sex marriage (PM service.) As Jack Donaghy would say "You have the boldness of a much younger woman."

  4. I still say Steve needs to write "Captain's Blog" and have him in his Kirk outfit from Halloween on it.

  5. Great first video blog..you seemed like you knew what you wanted to say and kept my attention. You know what would really be cool is to have a podcast with a group of people and have some kind of topic to discuss weekly. Yeah a podcast of the service would be awesome also. I am with you on the lifeless crowd..We might have to break out some Toby Mac or family Force Five to get the joint jumpin! See ya tomorrow night!

  6. Great video blog! I think you should keep it up. It wasn't uncorfortable or weird at all. I have to agree Kermit on the shoulder was a nice touch :).

  7. Thanks to all for the comments on the video blog. I think I will keep it up for a while for the Sunday Setlist entries.

Jamie, I would think at your height you'd be used to looking up people's noses.

Chris, I'm not sure some of our folks would survive Toby Mac on Sunday morning. But it's a good idea.

Tammy & Steff, that Kermit thing was a complete accident. But it did end up looking pretty funny. I'll probably either incorporate him into the vlog every week or maybe change what is on that shelf each time. I haven't decided yet. Either way, I think it's going to be fun to do the setlist like this for a while.
